UB hosts 1st Buffalo Jamaica Innovation Enterprise Meeting

UB will host the1st Annual Meeting of the Buffalo Jamaica Innovation Enterprise (BJIE) . The BJIE was formed to create the foundation for an emerging collaboration that will lead to the Center for Infectious Diseases Research, in Kingston Jamaica (a collaboration between the University at Buffalo, SUNY and the Mona Campus, University of the West Indies), as well as key additional projects that will comprise the Buffalo Jamaica Innovation Enterprise. The meeting will be held at UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences (701 Ellicott Street, Buffalo, NY) from 8:00 – 1pm on Wednesday, July 15th.

The meeting will include welcoming remarks from Charles F. Zukoski, UB Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Norma J. Nowak, Professor and Executive Director, of the Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences. Perspectives and comments will be provided by The Honorable Byron W. Brown II, Mayor of Buffalo; Eunice A. Lewin, Trustee, State University of New York; Charles L. Anderson, Sr, Chairman of the Board of the Jamaican and American Association of Buffalo and His Excellency Mr. Herman G. LaMont, Jamaica Consul General.

Components of the Jamaica Center for Infectious Diseases Research will be presented by The Honorable Dr. Fenton R. Ferguson, Jamaica Minister of Health and Professor John F. Lindo, Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Department Chair for Microbiology,  University of the West Indies.
